Artist Statement
Zoë Craig’s creative process emphasizes the use of richly coloured inks to build layers, texture, depth, and a painterly quality within her silkscreen prints. Drawing inspiration from urban and natural landscapes, Zoë’s prints are inspired from photographs she takes of the places she’s lived, visited, or found visually compelling. Her goal is to breathe life into each scene through careful layering and gestural mark-making, capturing the spirit and energy of the environments she portrays.
Artist Bio
Zoë Craig is a Toronto-based printmaker specializing in silkscreen. She works out of Open Studio and teaches silkscreen with the Toronto District School Board’s Learn4Life program at Central Technical School. Zoë holds a BFA from Queen’s University, where she majored in printmaking. Her passion for the medium began in childhood, taking classes at the Gallery School at the Art Gallery of Ontario. While studying at Queen’s, she was mentored by renowned silkscreen artist J.C. (Carl) Heywood, whose influence helped shape her focus and approach to the medium.
Zoë is an award-winning artist with work held in several prominent local collections, including those of Ernst & Young, Toronto-Dominion Bank, and the City of Toronto.
