Design Considerations for Framed Artworks

Framing fine art can be expensive, time-consuming, and technically difficult. For artworks you cherish, it should be done professionally and a custom frame may be required. As a result, many collectors consider it a cost and convenience benefit to have a frame already installed by the artist, making the artwork ready to hang upon delivery.

That said, selecting a frame can be JUST as personal and impactful of a decision as selecting a piece of art. We are not trying to discourage you from purchasing a framed artwork, but here are a few points to keep in mind:

    • When selected correctly, frames can make almost any painting (assuming the size is appropriate) work within a room. This allows you to prioritize your feelings for the art, rather than its fit within your space value, when browsing.
    • Continuing from the point above, double-check that the style of the frame on the artwork you select is appropriate for your space. All framed artworks should have a frame shown in the image. If you reserve a piece, we can provide complementary digital mockups to visualize the framed artwork on your walls, to scale.
    • Thicker frames are often considered more traditional, and slimmer frames (0.5″ – 1″) are considered more contemporary, but there are no hard rules here.
    • If a piece is not large enough for a space, but you are dead-set on the artwork, a frame can help occupy space by physically increasing the dimensions and demanding attention.

Framed Artworks for Sale

All of the artworks below are original works which have been framed by the artist. The cost of the frame is included in the listed price and dimensions.

In most cases, the frames shown are optional. You can purchase the artwork without the frame, and we can connect you with a professional framer and/or offer advice on a frame that would complement your space and artwork. If you’d like to acquire the painting without a frame, please “Reserve” the painting instead of purchasing outright.
