Artist Statement

Vanessa Corrigall’s art invites viewers to experience the serenity and introspection beneath the water’s surface. Incorporating traditional methods alongside AI-generated references, she creates layered transparent acrylic paintings that highlight the beauty and complexity of submerged worlds. Through the rhythmic interplay of light and shadow, she recreates the meditative quality of swimming. Her work explores how water alters perception, evoking both stillness and motion. Vanessa’s subjects, suspended in ambiguous spaces between nature and pools, prompt reflection on the human connection with water. Inspired by her own experiences, her work encourages a deeper appreciation for the tranquility found in these varying depths.

Artist Bio

Vanessa Corrigall is a Canadian artist based in Leduc, Alberta, renowned for her vibrant underwater acrylic scenes. Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Alberta, she has a passion for exploring the fluidity and depth of water in her art. When not in the studio, Vanessa draws inspiration from her experiences swimming and teaching high school art. Her work has gained international recognition, including Best in Show at Fusion Art’s Waterscapes Exhibition. Reflecting her commitment to creativity and community well-being, she donates a portion of her sales to the Canadian Mental Health Association.
