Artist Statement
Tiffany Blaise’s painting practice involves creating portals into radiant realms where skies transition rapidly over sparkling waters. Captured through a mixed-media approach with sumi ink, oil paint, and cold wax on canvas, her environments transcend mere landscape depiction to become a medium for personal introspection.
Bold and rhythmic brush strokes, inspired by painters of the Hong Kong Ink Painting Movement and Abstract Expressionist movement, converge with vibrant washes of colour. Spontaneous and intuitive brushwork channels the artist’s emotions during her experience of a place, capturing its spirit rather than its exact form. Through the recurrent motifs of clouds and water, each scene acts as a mirror for self-discovery. The skies move beyond aesthetic beauty to reveal a sultry, enigmatic atmosphere that captures rapid periods of change and renewal. While loosely inspired by coastal landscapes across the Pacific Northwest, these seascapes are deliberately situated outside specific temporal and spatial contexts. They could exist anywhere, at any moment, yet they evoke a deep familiarity.
Artist Bio
Tiffany Blaise is a Vancouver-based Canadian contemporary landscape painter of Chinese and French descent. Her practice centres on capturing the atmospheric and emotive essence of coastal landscapes across the West Coast and beyond. Blaise holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Concordia University, where she concentrated on art and design. Following her graduation, her work has been exhibited in cities including Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and Melbourne, with notable showcases at The Telus World of Science and the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair. Blaise’s paintings are held in both private and public collections internationally. Her artistic journey has been enriched by artist residencies including the Eramboo Artist Environment in New South Wales, Australia and The Pouch Cove Residency in Newfoundland, Canada.
