Artist Statement & Bio
Marjorie Mae Broadhead’s school experience was not complete until she walked into the art room and discovered it was there that my world made sense. The mystery of colour, paint, lines, and texture resonated with something deep inside of her. Marjorie finally felt she could communicate what she was feeling. Years later, after her kids were mostly grown and independent, she became aware of the deep need to express herself again… with paint. Marjorie started taking art classes through Chinook Learning and was hooked. Immediately. This led to many more in person and online courses as she fully embraced the opportunity to explore her passion.
Marjorie loves colour, vibrant and dramatic colour! From her perspective, it is one of the best qualities in her work. Marjorie has chosen acrylic as her preferred medium because she can work ‘fast and furiously’ with it. The fast dry time allows her to add layer upon layer as she paints a new conversation on canvas. As a fresh work comes to life under her brushes, Marjorie enjoys the excitement and anticipation it brings!
Every painting is a journey of discovery; whether Marjorie is capturing the light reflecting in her garden or conveying the elegance of a bloom, her aim is to communicate the emotion of the moment. Marjorie want the story she is telling to be as engaging to her audience as it is to her.
Marjorie Mae Broadhead has been an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists since 2016 and was recently (July 2020) awarded SFCA status by the Federation “In Recognition of Extraordinary Achievement in the Field of the Visual Fine Arts.”
