Artist Statement
Jodi Kitto-Ward’s imaginative paintings combine symbolism, whimsical narratives, and self-reflection. The importance and co-dependence of nature and home are recurring themes in her work, with the presence of nature often exaggerated to emphasize the benefit of prioritizing the natural world in our conception of home, and fostering respect and protection for our environment. Jodi’s colour palettes evoke uplifting psychological and emotional landscapes, not only for the viewer, but for herself during the painting process. Through the act of painting, she invites the viewer to engage their imagination by connecting to their own quiet magic.
“A feeling of home does not always come easy. With conflict, global displacement, poverty, technology, and mental health issues, our society has many barriers to feeling at-home. Seeking and finding one is an inward investigation into who we are, and reflects the potential to create our own piece/peace in the world.”
Artist Bio
Jodi Kitto-Ward is a Fine Arts Graduate of Sheridan College and an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists, Ontario Society of Artists, and the Colour and Form Society. She has won numerous awards including the Ina Gilbert 1st Award of Excellence from the Society of Canadian Artists in 2023. Her artwork can be found in public and private collections across Canada and internationally. Many of the landscapes and urban views within her body of work are inspired from Hamilton, ON, where Jodi resides and works from her home studio. Painting mostly in acrylic, Jodi’s work is strongly influenced by line, colour, and expression. Her style is representational, vibrant, and simplified in form, evoking influences of Pop Art, Art Deco, and Surrealism.
