Artist Statement
Jean Grady’s passion for painting began at an early age and was inspired by a blend of workshops and university courses. She began painting with watercolours, but shifted to acrylics for the freedom to create on a larger scale and to work quickly, maintaining a fresh semi-abstract style. Jean enjoys using vivid colours and a broad value range to create feelings of joy and excitement at the beauty of nature. Her paintings are inspired by the landscapes Northern Ontario, where she loves to hike and kayak. She is mesmerized by the intricate patterns of light and shadow in the woods and on the surface of the water. Her paintings celebrate nature, seen in the sparkle of the sun on swirling waves or on the branches of wind-blown pine trees, and the magnificent show of colours in a sunset sky.
Jean works out of a studio in London, ON and another in northern Ontario at the French River.
