Artist Statement
Desiree Martinez is a self-taught artist born in Distrito Federal, Mexico, and raised in Toronto. Working primarily with paint and clay, she explores the beauty of imperfection and the emotional connections between body, mind, and memory.
Desiree’s creative journey began in childhood and continued through her teenage years, though life took her down other paths in early adulthood. After experiencing mental and physical burnout, she returned to art as a way to reconnect with herself and her sense of purpose.
Now living in a small Ontario town, Desiree balances her practice with being a full-time mother and wife. Her work draws from nostalgic memories and quiet moments of daily life, using earthy tones in acrylic and oil, and bringing depth and texture through clay. Whether on canvas or in form, her pieces are intimate reflections of emotion, memory, and transformation.
Her work has been featured in exhibitions such as Artist Project and DesignTO, where she continues to share her evolving perspective and handcrafted narratives with a wider audience.
