Artist Statement
Each piece Daniel Cairo creates speaks in his unique language, expressing the feelings and emotions of being present in a particular moment and place. His creative process begins by contemplating a scene — the movements, sounds, smells — which he strives to translate into his artwork. Daniel uses a notebook to jot down observations and make sketches from different perspectives in-situ, quickly capturing the essence of what he experiences. Mixing colours and starting to paint begins once he returns to his home studio. Each brushstroke is carefully considered to add character and vibrancy to the composition. Cairo knows his work is complete when it succeeds in conveying a set of emotions, so that the viewer can enjoy his representation of that moment in that place.
