Colin Bell was born in Argentina, became an architect, immigrated to Canada in 1965 and now lives in Calgary. His artistic training began as a teenager in Argentina and continued in Canada through workshops with many renowned artists. He is a member of various art organizations, and has participated in numerous group and solo shows. Colin’s work is mostly focused on landscape, but also includes figures, animals, flowers and still life. He instructs groups in sketching and painting in watercolours, acrylics and oils. His work hangs in many private and corporate collections, and is exhibited in galleries in Canada, U.S.A. and Mexico.
Art is a compulsion for Colin, almost as natural as breathing. His work mostly celebrates subjects experienced and enjoyed, attempting to communicate the spirit of the subject by means of light, colour, texture and line. His work includes oils, acrylics and watercolours, each of which has unique qualities. Colin’s paintings try to express the essence of the subject while dramatizing it in terms of light, composition, structure and colour. Painting on location (plein-air) is one of Colin’s special treats when weather and opportunity permit.
