Artist Statement
Cecile Albi’s appreciation for art and passion for the creative process have been constants throughout her life. As a child growing up in Winnipeg, MB, she enjoyed expressing her love of colour and form on paper and canvas. As a natural consequence of her devotion to art, Cecile completed her BFA at the University of Manitoba in 1987. She also received a diploma in Advertising Art from Winnipeg’s Red River College in 1991. Thereafter, she moved to Calgary, AB, and embarked on a career in graphic design.
Throughout Cecile’s professional career, her affinity for fine art never waned. In 2014, she decided to move from a graphic design career to painting full-time. She has since developed a style and portfolio of works that is distinctive and recognizable, for which she is immensely proud.
For Cecile, the process of creating a work is as important as the finished piece. Painting is a sentient experience and when she immerses herself in the process, her senses take over. Her paintings have a whimsical style that captures the refraction of light through nature and convey a complete visual, emotional, and tactile experience. When creating her abstracted scenes, her foremost consideration is the colourful expression of the beauty she perceives in subjects.
